On the eve of a dangerous Bush veto of a new course in Iraq, the desperate Republicans sent out the attacker in chief Dick Cheney to assail yet another Dem leader.Kerry blatantly misrepresented the Harry Reid quote on which Cheney was commenting. In fact, what Reid said, and what Cheney responded to, was: "This war is lost. The surge is not accomplishing anything..." You can see Reid saying exactly what Cheney said he did, in this YouTube video.
Why? Because the Majority Leader Harry Reid said that "as long as we follow the president's path in Iraq, the war is lost. But there is still a chance to change course -- and we must change course."
Any questions? The president's own generals say there is no military solution to the civil war in Iraq, that it requires the political solution the Iraqis have resisted. But that didn't stop the GOP from trying to spin conscience into controversy.
The quote Kerry used was a later one, when Reid was backtracking after he realized he had blundered, not the one that Cheney referred to. Why did Kerry lie? No doubt, because the truth was too embarrassing for Harry Reid, John Kerry and the Democratic Party.
Here's another one, from today's Best of the Web. Howard Dean, like Kerry, sent out an email to the Democrat faithful. This one attacked a statement supposedly made by Rudy Giuliani:
Rudy Giuliani should be ashamed. The former New York City Mayor is politicizing September 11th in his 2008 presidential bid. Here's what he said at a recent campaign stop in New Hampshire: "If a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001... Never ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for (terrorists) to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!"What's wrong with Dean's rant? It's a lie. The key portion of the quote he attributes to Giuliani, which is bolded above, Giuliani didn't say. Dean just made it up.
I won't let this wannabe Republican nominee get away with remarks like these.
Why do the Democrats base their attacks on Republicans on lies? I suppose because the truth just doesn't work for them.
UPDATE: "Second Edition" tries to defend Harry Reid and John Kerry. Like many liberals, however, he doesn't seem to read too well. He quotes the speech by Reid that I referred to as "backtracking after he realized he had blundered." Then he goes so far as to suggest that the video I linked to was "tampered with." This illustrates pretty well how far around the bend many of the Democratic faithful have gone. The video wasn't tampered with, it shows Harry Reid giving a press conference. This was his original statement that the Iraq war "is lost," the one that Vice-President Cheney responded to. Demagogues like John Kerry and Howard Dean prey on the ignorance of people like "Second Edition."

16. Dear Dalosophy -
You're a kettle all right - of what I'm not sure but I won't stoop to name calling even if you do.
Your name is fitting because you are very big on philosophy but a little short on the facts. I have absoulutely no problem with Rep. Jefferson being prosecuted for his crimes if he is guilty. Any other big examples of "selective prosecution" ? Maybe you've forgotten that all of the current U.S. Attorneys are appointees of George W. Bush. You might have heard about them recently - it seems a few of them actually are serious about their oath to uphold the Constitution but the administration is working hard to correct that problem. And no wrongdoing there of course - Ms. Goodling was probably just kidding about taking the fifth. No one cares if you aren't admitting to any Republican wrongdoing - you might have missed it but the likes of Cunningham, Ney, Abramoff, Libby, and several others have already pleaded guilty or have been found guilty in a court of law. So you can think whatever crazy thoughts you desire - it doesn't change reality. The only people ranting about removing Saddam were Bushes buddies in the PNAC. People like Richard Perle, William Kristol, Donald Rumsfeld, and Doug Feith who pushed for this war then stood back and covered their backsides when it all hit the fan. As far as destroying a nation these guys sure tried their best. Ever think it might have made more sense to go after those who ACTUALLY WERE RESONSIBLE for 9/11 instead of running around and creating a new designated enemy ? But instead you still continue to try and blame this mess on everyone other than the people who really were responsible. And it is a mess. Who exactly among the Democrats are you talking about that was writing President Bush "urging and demanding" he take action against Saddam Hussein ? Got copies of the letters ? Maybe you forgotten the 80s when the "conservative" leadership we had helped Saddam raise hell on his neighbors and his own people. The U.S. State Department went so far as to take Hussein OFF the enemies list in 1982 - were the "liberals" responsible for that too ? Hussein was hung for crimes he committed against his own people in 1982. Catch the irony there ? Funny you mention the Caine Mutiny - you're ramblings are really taking on a certain Queeg-like quality. Maybe it's time to consider getting some professional help (lying sacks of.... ? pigs ? - real mature). But good luck finding your strawberries and keep rolling those ball bearings in your palm - hopefully that will relieve some of the pressure on your increasingly delusional mind. And remember to stay with the plastic knives and forks until you get better. Good luck.

17. max,
I am the product of a subplanted socialist injected public education and liberal college professors. They taught me to be proud of my plastic spoons and forks. Back in the day the best science said that we were doing great things for the environment (except my Russian instructors who didn't put any stock in liberalism). They could identify socialism a mile away and wouldn't touch it. We "Queeg-like" Republicans keep our steel balls in or pants in public and accept no responsibility whatsoever for the mess that you liberals made. The honorable President George W. Bush came into office with a terrorist mess waiting for him and white house artifacts stolen away to the Clinton double wide. You liberals are just lying cry babies! Add an 'e' to Caine.

Let's see - a tough guy has "steel balls" in his pants but is still having a difficult time overcoming the trauma he endured from his brutal teachers. Poor baby - no wonder you're so full of anger and other substances. We've had a Republican presidency for all but 4 years from 1969 to 1993 but again it's those damn "liberals" that messed everything up. SURE they did Dalo - SURE they did. It's always the liberals right ? Remember the "liberals" who were running the country in 1982 when they took Saddam OFF the enemies list and proceeded to help him wage war on his neighbors and his own people ? What brave response was there to the Marine barracks bombing in 1983, the attack on the U.S.S. Stark by Iraq in 1987 that killed 37 U.S. Sailors, or the murders of 189 innocent lives in the Pan Am 103 bombing in 1988 ? Those all Clintons fault too ? Clinton had his faults but at least it didn't take him until age 40 to quit drinking like the "honorable" one. And I don't remember Clinton whining and crying about the mess he was left by his predecessors - you know - the guys who were FOR Saddam before they were AGAINST him. Clinton was in office for a few days when the first attack occurred on the World Trade Center - President Bush has been in office for seven years and still the fingerpointing continues. Pathetic. Recently the honorable President Bush decided to reward career terrorist Muammar Gaddafi of Libya and took him off the enemies list. Deja vu anyone ?
You can bet if history repeats itself the Wingnut Nation will be out in force blaming the liberals. That's why the mess in Iraq and the colassal debt that has been run up by this administration will be left for the next President to deal with. That's their style - make a mess, leave the mess for someone else to clean up, and then blame them for it. Good strategery. It's sure worked pretty well so far for them.
P.S. I realize it was late last night but I believe there was an "E" in Caine. If I did make a mistake I would acknowledge it and try to correct it. Maybe that idea will catch on elsewhere.
